Treasurer’s Report:  Tina Gonzales/ Sharon Reyes

Current balance is $39,722.17 with expenses pending for recent events such as Welcome Back Breakfast.  Expenses for library were recorded under repairs.  Current finances are adequate and we have earmarked money for the purchase of the new marquee ($6-8K).

Treasurer’s report was approved with a motion by Sharon and seconded by Martha.

Committee Reports:

Service Work Report: Lisa Schultz

School Store: Rossana Hernandez/Teresita Ayala

·       Teresita announced some new ideas for merchandise and hours for the school store.  Some of the ideas were to offer school supplies (pens/pencils/paper), static cling stickers for cars, hair ribbons, and caps.  We will also check into the potential of selling spirit t-shirts at the school games but need to get approval from the athletic committee first.

·       We needs a sign created for the hallway so we can open the doorway to the hall instead of through the kitchen area.

·       Teresita would also like to develop an inventory list, which everyone agreed was a good idea.

·       New hours will include Monday and Wednesday PM (2:30 – 3:30) along with AM times on Mon/Wed.  Not planning to be open on Fridays.

Hospitality – Mary Kelly

·       Grandparents Day is Sept 7th with reception after mass (9:00 AM).  She still needs some additional helpers for setup and cleanup.

Fall Fundraiser/Cookie Dough Sales – Liz Garza

·       Total orders are $2,468 so far, so a little slow but many folks don’t turn in their monies until the last day.

·       Feedback on additional pretzels items has been very postive.

·       Most folks are turning in orders for more than the minimum of 10 item so far.

·       We are still investigating options for the spring fundraiser and looking at possibly selling pies/cakes/cheesecakes right before Easter.  Note:  The golf tournament will be the first weekend in April 08.

Other Fundraising Opportunities – Priscilla Gonzaba

·       School Pax (schoolpax.org) is an organization of merchants that will provide a % of money back to schools if you shop at the listed stores.  Similar to the Target schools initiative that requires using your Target charge card for the purchases.

·       Longhorn Recycling – This would be an alternative to our current recycling bin donor.  Longhorn has an organized program complete with incentive offers to schools for the collecting the most materials.  The winning school gets a trip to Sea World for all students.  Program materials also include marketing flyers, letters to area businesses, etc that we could use to promote this program.  Recycle containers are provided at no cost (same as our current vendor).  Decision was made to keep with the current vendor until after October since the bins must be picked up/moved for Halloween Carnival anyway.  At that time we can decide if we want to switch.

Other Items/Bid Updates – Priscilla Gonzaba

·       Marquee – Priscilla is still working with Alamo Heights to obtain approval for the new marquee which will be placed at 103 Marcia.  We have had to make compromises such as no illumination, smaller overall height and a less commercial-looking design.  Next, we need a base designed to match the stucco architecture of the house to make it blend in well.  The goal is to get approvals and have the new marquee installed by Catholic Schools Weeks in January 08.

·       We have received bids for the new panic hardware and installation for the cafeteria area as well as door replacements/hardware improvements for the bathroom exterior cafeteria hallway (East End Glass has lowest bid currently).

Homeroom Parent Coordinator – Charlotte

·       Charlotte was unable to attend this meeting but provided Priscilla with these updates to share with the group.

·       6th grade class still needs 1 more parent

·       3rd grade class needs a lead parent but does have 3 assistance homeroom parent volunteers.

·       Lead parents will receive 20 service hours and assistants will receive 10 service hours.

·       There is a social/dance this Friday at 7 PM in the Annex Gym following the volleyball games.

Halloween Carnival – Martha Rodriguez

·       Lots of folks have signed up to help so far.  We have approximately 50 volunteers on the list.

·       We will offer double service hours for the clean-up crew on the Saturday after carnival.

·       Classroom list has gone out along with table assignments.

·       6th grade has a new event, Turkey Trot.  This event has a live turkey that someone gets at the end of the night if his or her name is still on the whiteboard at the time of the drawing.  It will cost $1.00 to add someone’s name to the board and for $5.00 you can remove your name.  Need to plan to arrange for a handler.

·       Becky Pawelek is in charge of basket mania again this year.

·       Haunted house may be in jeopardy this year.  Mr. Byrom has had heart bypass surgery this summer and it may be too much for the family to undertake given the circumstances.  Priscilla is checking with Judy to get a final decision.  If they cannot do it, we may cancel the haunted house because it is too much to for the existing committee to take over and still get everything else done.  There was a discussion of possibly giving this over to the 8th grade to do to earn money for their 8th grade end-of-year party.

·       Terry is not doing décor this year, so Priscilla is heading up this effort.

·       We need to finalize events etc to go to print by the end of September.

Upcoming Events

PTC Federation Workshop – Saturday, September 8 at UIW’s ICC

·       PTC Federation workshop will be held at UIW this Saturday from 9 AM – 12 PM. St. Peter’s PTC is sponsoring refreshments for this group at estimated expense of $150-200.  Priscilla Gonzaba is leading a round table discussion.

PTC Open House – September 12, 6 PM in Parish Hall

·       PTC Open House will be held on September 12 at 6 PM.  Program will include music entertainment by several classes, SPS choir and guitar players.  Babysitting will be available in the cafeteria with Ms. Sanchez but we need at least 1 more adult volunteer to assist with babysitting supervision.

Unity Mass – October 21 at 11 AM, reception following in Parish Hall

·       Unity Mass will be held on October 21 at 11 AM with a reception following mass in the Parish Hall.  PTC board members need to provide 2 dozen brownies or cookies for the reception.  Becky Pawelek will be in charge of the Halloween Carnival Basket Mania displays for this event.

Other Announcements:

·       Ms. Lauder announced that there are several students with severe nut allergies this year.  It will be important that all homeroom parents and members of the hospitality committee are aware and get the word out.  We should try to provide snacks for parties and events that avoid these items and offer suitable, safe alternatives.

Closed meeting with Hail Mary.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:39 PM.
